THE RED BAND SOCIETY

I'm looking forward to watch THE RED BAND SOCIETY, which is bound to be a remake of the great POLSERES VERMELLES. I'm also happy to see that a Catalan mini series caught the attention of Steven Spielberg and Martha Kauffman, which means that stories of endurance, courage and survival are international and know no borders.
And most of all, my encouragement and respect to everyone, young or old, struggling with illness in hospital wings. You are great!

My 2BAT students joined the Massive Symphony today at 11.11 a.m

THE KING'S SPEECH ACTIVITY PACK

MISERY BEAR PREPARES FOR A DATE

Things are looking up for Misery Bear as he prepares for a date. If you're a bear it can be a little chaotic when it comes to cooking; blenders and bears don't mix. Misery Bear is pretty sure things will come together though, especially as he has candles and the perfect music. Maybe a relationship could be just what he needs to find a cure for his sad and lonely existence. See more from Misery Bear at bbc.co.uk/comedy.

GIVE YOUR OPINION: SPORTS PREFERENCES

Class debate
We all know that exercising twice a week is a healthy habit. However, there are many different ways to exercise. Some people, like Suzanne, like going to the gym. Others, like Matthew, prefer team sports such as basketball or football. Where do you stand? Do you like going to the gym and exercising by yourself, or do you prefer playing team sports? Use the vocabulary and the sentences below to discuss this topic in class.

Mosts gyms are open all day. This makes it easier to adapt exercise to your schedule

Going to the gym is boring. On the other hand, playing team sports is competitive and fun.

WELCOME BACK!

Dear 3ESO students,
I'm really happy to be back at school and have you as my pupils. I hope we have a great year together and your English improves as a result. Little by little you're going to get used to our English class routines, so don't worry and ask me if you need help.
I'm an active and happy person who enjoys cinema, cooking and celtic music. I'll show you some of my hobbies in our future lessons.
Last August I spent a few days in Asturias with my family. We love Asturias! It's a wonderful place, with wonderful landscapes and really friendly people. Oviedo, its capital, is an awesome and exciting city. You must visit it.
One night in August we visited Lastres, which is a famous village in Asturias. Do you know why it is famous? It's popular because it appears in a famous TV series in Antena3, Doctor Mateo. Have you ever seen it? Do you recognize the photograph?
Well, that's all for now.
Tell me a bit about yourselves, so that I can get to know you! Write your post below, and remember to write your name and course.
See you!
Abel
Enjoy

HARRY POTTER 7: THE LAST TRAILER

HARRY POTTER 7.15 : IT ALL ENDS

Quite sad, isn't it? It seems long ago when I took my 4ESO students to see the premiere of HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERER'S STONE back on November 30, 2001.
Ten years have passed and those kids left school, went to university and one of them has become an English teacher!! Time flies and it seems like magic.
Well, back to Potter. It's been nice to witness such a worlwide phenomenon, both in children's literature and in the film franchise. The books are excellent and so are the films.
But it all ends. Tomorrow, July 15, 2011.
Now, my question. How has Harry Potter affected your free time? Have you read the novels? Have you seen the films? What was your favourite part? Who's your favourite character?
It would be nice to read your comments, and why not, if one of you attended that premiere in Barcelona on November 30, 2011 I'd be delighted to read your comments!

A SPRING OF FRUSTRATION IN SPAIN

It's amazing to see this morning's headline in THE WASHINGTON POST!
I love the honesty of the newspaper headline: A SPRING OF FRUSTRATION IN SPAIN. And I love how the Americans have been brave enough to use this word: FRUSTRATION.
And especially, I love the play with words, using the word SPRING, generally evoking hope, new beginnings and the rebirthing of nature, with the horrible feeling of FRUSTRATION, which depicts exactly how many of us feel in Spain. Not much good news for democracy and popular representation.
And, coincidence or not, I love the thunderstom icon on top of the Puerta del Sol photograph. Is it a symbol of the upcoming storm? will we have nice sunshine after the storm or will we have a gloomy and rainy electoral spring?
As everything in our country these days... we'll know the answers next Monday, after the local elections results are revealed.
In the meantime, I'd love to hear your opinions and your feelings. Are you frustrated or satisfied with our present situation? Do you feel represented by your goverment or do you feel cheated by them?
Let's take advantage of the democracy of the Internet and the freedom to publish our own opinions. At least, we are now free to speak our minds online.
Do it now, while we are allowed to!

PHYSICS OF THE FUTURE

The man in the photo is MICHIO KAKU: he's one of the most famous physicist in the world. He's presenting his new book "PHYSICS OF THE FUTURE" This is the text with some new revelations he talks about in his book. Read and enjoy;

Book Tour Dates & Locations For March 15th Release of Physics of the Future: How Science will Change Daily Life by 2100

Based on interviews with over three hundred of the world’s top scientists, who are already inventing the future in their labs, I present the revolutionary developments in medicine, computers, quantum physics, and space travel that will forever change our way of life and alter the course of civilization itself.

Astonishing revelations include:

* The Internet will be in your contact lens.
* It will recognize people’s faces, display their biographies, and even translate their words into subtitles.
* You will control computers and appliances via tiny sensors that pick up your brain scans. You will be able to rearrange the shape of objects.
* Sensors in your clothing, bathroom, and appliances will monitor your vitals, and nanobots will scan your DNA and cells for signs of danger, allowing life expectancy to increase dramatically.
* Radically new spaceships, using laser propulsion, may replace the expensive chemical rockets of today. You may be able to take an elevator hundreds of miles into space by simply pushing the “up” button.

Like Physics of the Impossible and Visions before it, Physics of the Future is an exhilarating, wondrous ride through the next one hundred years of breathtaking scientific revolution.

FEBRUARY, 4TH : WORLD CANCER DAY!

Today, Feb 4th is WORLD CANCER DAY. My support to everyone that has this illness or to all the families that have gone through a cancer process.
Some ideas to make the most of this day:
1)Donate! Give your money to the volunteers collecting money in the streets.
2)Call! Perhaps you know someone with cancer. Your call and your support may help this person be more positive about the illness.
3)Get involved! Find a local charity or organization that helps people with cancer. 30 minutes of one day a week can make a difference in your area.
4)Get information! Do some research about cancer. Perhaps one day your findings can save a person's life.
GET INVOLVED NOW!
